Ion Channels

Ion channels represent a diverse set of integral membrane proteins that play key roles in cellular function ranging from propagation of action potentials in excitable cells to regulation of cell signaling pathways. Their importance in human biology is evidenced by the multitude of disease conditions arising from aberrant ion channel functionality.  Despite the breadth of human disease associated with ion channels, targeted drug development has been disappointing owing largely to the lack of a source of high-yield high-quality recombinant ion channels. TetraGenetics has solved this bottleneck thus enabling the discovery and development of drugs targeting this therapeutically important class of proteins.
